Frequently Asked Questions

How Do I Get the Best Video Quality?

Preferred Codecs
For the best quality we recommend encoding video in H.264 with AAC audio. FLV files will be passed through our system without additional processing. Other accepted video codecs include MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, VP6, VP5, H.264,
H.263, WMV/WMA, and MJPEG. Other accepted audio codecs include AAC, Uncompressed, MP3, WMA, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, WAV, and ADPCM.

Frame Size & Aspect Ratio
Our video player is a 16:9 aspect ratio at 640x360. Videos at 4:3 will be pillarboxed. Wider videos will be letterboxed. Dailyfilm never stretches, squeezes or crops videos. In terms of video size, we recommend the video uploaded be at a size that can be viewed in fullscreen mode without a significant degradation in quality. High definition videos will be screened in HD. Your video should be a minimum of 360 pixels in height to avoid videos being smaller than the standard video player.

Bitrate
Send us your best quality file. A bitrate of at least 2400kbps is recommended to produce the best result.

Frame Rate
We recommend shooting or encoding to 24 (23.98), 25, or 30 (29.97) fps.

Deinterlace
- If your video is interlaced, always deinterlace before uploading to avoid jaggy lines in playback.

Keyframes - This can be set at 30.

Pixels
- Encode using isomorphic (square) pixels. This is usually the default setting on your video software, but if youʼve been making some adjustments for 16:9 you may be unknowingly encoding to (rectangular) anamorphic pixels. We can only support videos using isomorphic pixels (1 x 1).
